That's despite the fact that Insomniac Games, the developers behind Wolverine, have previously delivered 2018's Spider-Man, 2020's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and 2023's Spider-Man 2.
There are dramatic takedowns when Wolverine defeats a goon, for example, with the camera moving and the motion slowing to give you a glorious view of this little victory. The Spider-Man games have a similar visual language, but this actually brings us to one of the big differences that we've spotted.
View oEmbed on the source websiteWhen Wolverine takes out a goon, he really takes out that goon, fully impaling the baddie with his claws, and the developers add a lot of blood splatter to illustrate the point.
This makes sense for comic book and movie fans, of course. Peter Parker's moral code means that he tries to avoid killing his foes, whereas Logan tends to take the opposite approach.
Instead, the trailer shows that Wolverine will have a couple of different options for traversing his environment – he can do fairly big jumps, often using an enemy to soften his fall, or he can jump on a motorbike to get from A to B a bit quicker.
It's unclear if you'll always have access to a motorbike in the game, but we do see Logan finding one and riding it in the footage. Here's hoping that's a recurring feature, as it looks like a lot of fun!
View Green Video on the source websiteIn the comics and films, Wolverine can heal from pretty much any injury, and the developers have found a way to work that into the game. It does come with some caveats, of course – an immortality simulator might be too easy for players!
