The Australian all-rounder said that he will take a call closer to the tournament after holding discussions with SRH and doesn’t want to confirm anything at the moment.
“Something has got to give at some stage next year and it’s not going to be test matches or an ODI World Cup. I will make a call a lot closer and work with the franchise to see what makes sense. Things can change. I’ve had a couple of injuries pop up, so I don’t really want to lock in anything,” Cummins said.
Cummins, who suffered a lumbar stress injury at the start of the year, missed the first half of the IPL 2026 as he only obtained a fitness clearance from Cricket Australia in mid-April. He played 8 matches in this season, and picked up as many wickets. In his absence, SRH were captained by Ishan Kishan, who is the obvious choice to replace Cummins should the latter decide to skip IPL 2027.
Talking about Australia’s international calendar, the team will first take on India in four Tests in January and February. This will be followed by a 150th anniversary Test between Australia and England in March which will take place in Melbourne. A full Ashes tour followed by the ODI World Cup in October and November completes a packed schedule for the Aussies and Cummins in 2027.
Cummins stated that his priority remains Tests and the World Cup, adding that he would surely need a break before the gruelling Ashes series.
“The priorities for me are always the test matches and that ODI World Cup. I dare say if I play all of India, I need some sort of break before a pretty gruelling Ashes series,” he said.
