HOPEWELL, N.Y. — Lawyers are calling the extended deadline for people to move out of Patty’s Lodge in Ontario County illegal.
The deadline was extended Monday night. Residents tell News10NBC they got a letter giving them 20 extra days before they have to move out.

News10NBC reported they originally had to leave Monday, with warnings that utilities would be shut off and their belongings would be thrown out. David Kagle, an attorney at Law NY who’s challenging the letter, says the deadline is not legal.
“Tenants are entitled to either 30, 60, 90 days notice, depending on how long they’ve lived there. Anyone who’s lived there more than a year, a year or more, is entitled to at least 60 days notice. So for those folks, this, what he’s calling a courtesy and an extension, would still not even meet the minimum legal requirements,” Kagle said.
Ontario County’s Department of Social Services is helping residents find new housing.
Patty’s Lodge is where police say that Sam Nordquist, a transgender man from Minnesota, was tortured and killed last year.
