UNC Hospitals Names Former UVA Medical Center Leader as Incoming President ...Middle East

News by : (chapelboro) -

Chapel Hill’s UNC Hospitals system has found its next leader.

UNC Health announced on Tuesday its selection of Min Lee to take up the role of president later this summer and succeed Janet Hadar, who departed the hospital system last December after five years at the helm. Lee will join UNC after serving as the Chief Operating Officer of the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville for the last four years and will look to bring her combination of academic medical center experience and operational expertise to the UNC campus.

“UNC Hospitals’ mission is both extraordinary and deeply personal: to care for people in the moments that matter most, to advance what is possible, and to serve North Carolina with purpose,” Lee said in a release. “I am honored to join UNC Health and look forward to working alongside the physicians, teammates, leaders and partners who bring that mission to life every day.”

“What stood out to me about Min throughout the search process was that she is able to combine an undisputed track record of delivering results, while also focusing on leading teams with compassion, clear communication, and a commitment to developing the next generation of leaders,” Jeff Lindsay, UNC Health’s President and Chief Operating Officer, added. “I am confident that she is the right person to lead UNC Hospitals into the future, and I look forward to the positive impact she will have on our teams, our physicians, and the communities we are privileged to serve.”

Currently, Lee oversees daily operations as part of a broad leadership team at the Virginia university’s medical center. Before working at the UVA Medical Center, she was Vice President of Operations at Reading Hospital in Pennsylvania and spent seven years at Emory Healthcare’s midtown hospital — starting as an intern and program manager before rising to become its Vice President of Operations. That experience, UNC Health said in its release, helped Lee establish herself as “a mission-driven executive leader and trusted physician partner who delivers results while remaining deeply committed” to hospital staff. She earned her bachelor’s degree of business administration from the University of Georgia before earning two master’s degrees from George State University: Master of Business Administration and Master of Health Administration.

At UNC Hospitals, Lee will lead much of the Chapel Hill medical campus off of Manning Drive, which includes the N.C. Memorial Hospital, N.C. Children’s Hospital, N.C. Women’s Hospital and N.C. Neurosciences Hospital. The hospital campus, which is verified as a Level 1 trauma center for both adult and pediatric patients, features more than 900 patient beds and partners with the UNC School of Medicine to help educate Carolina students.

Lee will formally begin her role as president of UNC Hospitals on Monday, July 20.
