An upcoming iPhone feature will enable users to split bills by photographing a receipt, assigning items to different people, and then generating payments requests, Bloomberg reported Monday (June 1), citing unnamed sources.
The feature is tied to the Apple Cash peer-to-peer payments system, will be available through the Wallet app or within Messages, and will give users the option of approving payments from an Apple Watch, according to the report.
It may be announced as soon as next week at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, and it may be included in the next version of the iPhone operating system, iOS 27, the report said.
Apple did not immediately reply to PYMNTS’ request for comment.
It was reported May 28 that Apple is set to unveil its next software updates for iPhone, iPad and Mac at the conference together with several new features.
According to that report, which was also based on unnamed sources, the new features will include another for Wallet: the ability to create custom passes in the Wallet app.

The new “Create a Pass” feature in Wallet is designed for situations in which a business provides a QR code for entry but doesn’t support Apple’s Wallet app. It enables users to generate a custom pass around the QR code by importing the code into the app.
The feature will have templates for standard, membership and event passes, and will let users customize the information shown on each pass, per the report.
The PYMNTS Intelligence report “Digital Wallets Beyond Transactions: Global In-Depth Report” found that consumers widely use Apple Wallet in the five countries studied in the report: Brazil, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.
When FinTech company Monzo announced in March 2025 that it debuted a tool to help consumers share expenses with friends and family, the company said its solution is aimed at solving what it said is a persistent problem: consumers losing money because they feel too awkward to ask to be paid back after covering shared expenses.
The U.K. company reported that more than half of U.K. residents routinely covers costs for others.
