Where have we seen this before? Oh right, on Animal Planet, every Super Bowl Sunday since 2005.
On June 10, LG Channels‘ World Pup will put rescue puppies on the football field pitch to raise adoption awareness. The baby dogs will then be forced to play soccer to the death. I’m just kidding — the lighthearted competition is all for fun and charity, and the participants will almost certainly pass most of the time sniffing each others’ butts. Yes, LG Channels World Pup is exactly the Puppy Bowl, but that’s OK here — it’s the same producers.
All3Media America’s Bright Spot Content, the producer of the Puppy Bowl, is behind the upcoming four-part soccer series featuring 48 rescue puppy participants in a bracket-style championship. They’ll represent eight nations to mirror the global appeal of the World Cup, which kicks off the following day, even though all the pups are from the states. U.S. World Cup veteran and CBS Sports host Jimmy Conrad will serve as the tournament’s official “Rufferee,” if you can tolerate another pun. Puppy Bowl ref Dan Schachner is probably lighting a brown bag full of questionable contents on Conrad’s porch as you read this.
“Dog influencers” (apparently they exist) Chili and Lumi will “deliver commentary and plenty of scene-stealing moments,” according to the Monday announcement. AirCorg, whoever or whatever that is, “also makes a special appearance, delivering the tournament’s final prediction.”
For World Pup, LG Channels partnered with 12 shelters and rescue organizations across the country to help spotlight rescue animals in need of a home.
“LG Channels World Pup combines the excitement of global soccer competition with the heartwarming mission of supporting rescue animals and the shelters that care for them,” said Matthew Durgin, vice president, North America Content & Services. “At LG Channels, we’re always looking for ways to celebrate big events that bring people together and create entertaining programming with real impact. This initiative is a meaningful and fun way to do just that while also embodying LG’s Life’s Good philosophy.”
LG Channels World Pup will be available on LG Smart TVs and at LGChannels.com.
