A suburban Orland Park water park has been temporarily closed after two E. coli cases potentially tied to the facility.
According to Orland Park officials, Centennial Park will be closed Sunday and Monday for sampling and testing after the cases were reported in recent days.
An investigation has “preliminarily linked” the cases to the facility, but further testing is required, according to officials.
E. coli is a bacterial infection that typically occurs when a person consumed contaminated food or water, or comes into contact with an animal that’s been infected by the bacteria, according to the CDC.
Children under the age of 5 and adults over the age of 65 are especially vulnerable to serious cases of the infection, which can lead to kidney failure and even death in rare cases.
Residents who recently visited Centennial Park are being urged to contact their healthcare provider if they’ve developed symptoms associated with E. coli, which include diarrhea, stomach cramping, nausea or vomiting, and fever, contact your healthcare provider.
