Funeral services for Rev. James Thurman Seber, age 82 of Alexandria, are scheduled to be conducted on Monday June 1, 2026 at 2 pm from the Prosperity Baptist Church (45 Fites Ln. Auburntown, TN 37016). Bro. David Moody, Bro. Mark Stinnett, Bro. Herb Leftwich, Bro. Terry Geren and Bro. Christopher Young will officiate. Interment will follow in the Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation with the Seber family will be on Sunday May 31, 2026 from 2pm-8pm and again on Monday after 10am at Prosperity Baptist Church.
Rev. James Thurman Seber passed away and went to his Heavenly Home on Friday May 29, 2026 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He was born November 24, 1943 in Livingston, TN to the late Cordell and Ona V. Seber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James David Seber.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura Bowers Seber; daughters, Peggy Leach and Sandy Morris; and son, Daniel (Amy) Seber; grandchildren, Christopher (Marissa) Young, Taylor (Whitney) Leach, Kenzie (Bailey) Hayes, Andrew Seber, Hannah Leach, Aaron Seber, Alex Seber, Aiden Seber, Elizabeth Seber (Brayden Shehane), and Addison Seber; five great-grandchildren, Amelia, Adaline, and Ezra Young, James Hayes, and Nolan Leach.
Bro. Seber loved to garden and watch his purple martin birds. He loved his family dearly, but considered his greatest calling to be that of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to which he was called at the young age of 19. Bro. Seber continued faithfully in his calling to the ministry all the way up to his passing. He pastored five churches during his lifetime, and was interim pastor at numerous others. He also served as the Director of Missions for the Salem Baptist Association on two separate occasions. The family requests that any of his pastor friends who are attending the funeral to serve as honorary pallbearers. Pallbearers will be: Taylor Leach, Bailey Hayes, Brayden Shehane, Nicky J. Nokes, Mark Walker, Tim Reed, Dave Buterbaugh and Alan Hayes.
