Winter Juniors qualifier Alex Allocco has announced his verbal commitment* to swim and study at Dartmouth College beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am thrilled to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Dartmouth College to continue my academic and athletic careers. I want to thank all of my coaches at Edina, especially Coach Jeff, Coach Nicole, and Coach Johnson. I also want to thank my parents, friends, and my brother. Finally, a big thank you to Coach Milana, Coach Blair, and whole Dartmouth team for giving me this opportunity. Go Big Green!!
A junior at Edina High School in Minnesota, Allocco has competed for the school’s swimming and diving team since his freshman year. He also currently trains year-round with the Edina Swim Club, where he primarily specializes in distance freestyle.
Allocco is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw him drop nearly 20 seconds in the 1650 free, four and a half seconds in the 500 free, and about a second and a half in the 200 free.He kicked off that progress at Winter Juniors – West this past December, qualifying for the meet for the first time and finishing 30th in the 1650 free (15:38.89) and 58th in the 500 free (4:30.52), both then-personal bests.
On the high school scene, Allocco finished runner-up in the 500 free (4:33.65) and fifth in the 200 free (1:40.48, current PB) at the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Championships in February, his best-ever finishes at the meet after placing fourth in the 500 and 10th in the 200 as a sophomore.
Allocco closed out the season at the NCSA Spring Championships in March, where he recorded his current personal bests in the distance events. He touched 14th in the 1650 free (15:33.70) and 20th in the 500 free (4:29.68), and finished 136th in the 200 free (1:44.13).

200 Freestyle: 1:40.48 500 Freestyle: 4:29.68 1650 Freestyle: 15:33.70A Division I program, Dartmouth competes in the Ivy League Conference, with the men’s team placing seventh out of eight teams at this past season’s conference championships. Allocco’s current best in the 1650 free would have placed 21st at the Ivy League Championships, already putting him in position to be an immediate contributor with two full seasons of training still ahead before his first conference meet. He is not far off in the 200 and 500 free either, where times of 1:40.38 and 4:27.23 were needed to earn a second swim.
Allocco joins Brian He, Patrick Dunn, and Wyatt Sylvester in committing to the Big Green’s class of 2031 so far.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
