The indoor/outdoor space has remained empty for several years. No name has been given yet, and the duo has kept details close to the vest. The new restaurant will sit catty-corner to Urban Kitchen Group’s long-established flagship restaurant, Cucina Urbana. They are aiming for a 2027 opening.

An invasion of Maryland crabs is upon us

The season for soft-shell blue crabs has arrived. At downtown’s Water Grill, the kitchen is importing nearly 1,400 of the crunchy, sweet-tasting crustaceans every week from Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay, which supplies the crabs to much of the country. Preparations include the soft-shell crab served with roasted eggplant, bok choy and red curry sauce. Later in the summer, guests will see the soft shell crabs grilled and set atop watermelon-cucumber salad.

Water Grill’s parent restaurant, King’s Fish House in Mission Valley, is also using the crabs in a couple of ways, including a Southern-fried preparation served with fresh corn succotash, okra and green tomatoes. The crab supply is abundant in June and July. A rep for Water Grill said supplies start dwindling in early September. Water Grill – 615 J St., 619-717-6992.
