The Michigan football team will have a new offensive coordinator for the third straight season. While the 2025 Wolverines had a handful of explosive plays, the offense under new coordinator Jason Beck should have some more consistency when it comes to moving the football.
Beck’s offense isn’t revolutionary, or even a total shift away from what Michigan has been running over the past few seasons. He and Kyle Whittingham have been clear that their priority will be to run the ball.

While there are a lot of plays that Beck will use come the fall, here are three we hope he calls often in 2026.
Play #1
On this touchdown pass, quarterback Devon Dampier finds wide receiver Ryan Davis wide open. Davis is able to walk it in for a touchdown after getting lost in traffic in the middle of the field. A pre-snap motion allows Davis to cross to the opposite side of the field, while the other receivers make their way down the field vertically. If there’s anything we’ve come to appreciate over the last few seasons, it’s the benefits that come from a pre-snap motion.
While the routes on this play aren’t anything special, it’s easy to see how having a target so clearly open will help build Bryce Underwood’s game. The wide receiver room is taking a step up, and getting one of them uncovered this close to the end zone seems like it’d be an automatic touchdown.

Play #2
This is another play that utilizes motion and allows the quarterback to make a read on the play. It’s not always as successful as it was in this play, but the payoff seems worth it. On this one, Utah finds the end zone after a 49-yard touchdown run by running back Daniel Bray.
With Michigan’s loaded running back room and well-rounded blocking tight ends and wide receivers, along with a dual-threat quarterback in Underwood, it’s tough to imagine this play won’t be a staple in the offense this fall. It’s easy to picture running back Jordan Marshall scoring a touchdown after getting some nice blocks on the outside and outrunning the defenders. Michigan has the pieces to utilize this play multiple times per game — they just have to make sure everyone on the field is doing their part.

Play #3
Okay, okay, none of these plays are anything out-of-this world, and this next one is pretty simple. Utah is in the red zone and needs to pick up two yards for the first down. Once again, the offense utilizes motion and the quarterback runs it in for a score.
On this play, it doesn’t seem like the read is made post-snap, they just fake the handoff to give Dampier the space to pick up the first down and then the touchdown. Utilizing a play like this to hopefully build some confidence for Underwood and get the offense firing on all cylinders.
It seems obvious the Wolverines need to utilize all of Underwood’s abilities next season, including his ability to run the ball. Here’s hoping that Beck makes some calls that allow Underwood to make those types of plays.
