It has been a couple of weeks since the NFL released the schedule for the 2026 season, and hopefully you have had enough time to plan whatever it is you need to plan relative to the Dallas Cowboys.
Whether you are going to a home or away game, maybe you are just coordinating life around the kickoff times, the reality is that the schedule release allowed for certain things to fall into place like that. What’s more is that the schedule allowed us to draw some legitimate conclusions about the team’s chances.

People always wonder how this is the case given that the Cowboys’ opponents, like everyone’s, were known the moment last season ended. We have literally known since January who and where Dallas will play, but things like the start times matter because rest matters. When you travel to places matters. You get the picture.
How the Cowboys picked up an extra win
While scrolling through social media on Wednesday a video from The Athletic appeared. The TikTok made note of the fact that the Cowboys and Carolina Panthers each picked up an extra win by way of the schedule release. You can watch the video for yourself here.
The premise behind the Cowboys and luck smiling upon them is that Dallas does not have to play any short-week road games all year.
Consider that three of the most difficult road games that Dallas will play all season occur with longer rest than normal. The Cowboys will visit the Green Bay Packers after playing on a Thursday night (so the mini-bye), they’ll visit the Seattle Seahawks on a Monday after their Thanksgiving Day game, and then they will travel to play the Los Angeles Rams coming off of their bye. That is a pretty sweet way of looking at things.

The video in question noted that oddsmakers moved Dallas’ projected win total from 8.5 on the season to 9.5, but you can still get one or the other from our friends at FanDuel. Obviously the odds are unique to each projected total.
It should be noted that there is a wrinkle to all of this not mentioned that the Cowboys are on the wrong side of. While the Cowboys are the designated home team for their Week 3 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, we all know that the game is taking place in Brazil. Dallas has to play that game on an entirely different continent and then play a road game the week after. The road game in question is against the Houston Texans so it’s not like it is incredibly far away, but again the context matters. It should also be said that Dallas hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a Thursday night right after heading to Houston.
This was an interesting way of looking at where Dallas benefited, though. In theory road games are the toughest ones and the Cowboys have some baked in advantages working for them for some of the most important ones on paper.
