Day 128 of the Chicago Bears offseason. A new round of OTAs starts today and will roll through Friday. Stay tuned for more.
I usually roll with Bears stuff at the top of Bullets, but seeing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes back at practice for the first time since undergoing knee surgery in December is something that stopped me in my tracks when it hit my “for you” page:QB1. ⏰ pic.twitter.com/z2zGoIhIVz
— Kansas City Chiefs (@Chiefs) May 26, 2026 The Bears have some banged-up players returning from injuries that ended their seasons, and I’d like to see them back at practice sooner rather than later. It would be a wonderful surprise to see this team get some good news on the medical front, especially after last week’s report of Kyler Gordon’s injury flare-up.CHECK OUT THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
It sounds like Dayo Odeyingbo will be back in the swing of things at training camp. Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen tells ESPN’s Courtney Cronin that Odeyingbo will “definitely be in the mix” at defensive end when training camp gets going later in the summer. So, at a minimum, we have some semblance of a timeline for Dayo’s return. Odeyingbo signed a major free-agent contract in March 2025, but was limited to eight games because of an Achilles injury. It’s not as if Odeyingbo was setting the world on fire when he was healthy. The 26-year-old defensive end should be plenty motivated coming into the 2026 season. On the one hand, I don’t feel comfortable banking on the return of injured players to bolster the defensive line. But on the other hand, I can’t deny that contributions from a healthy Grady Jarrett, Dayo Odeyingbo, and Shemar Turner should help in some capacity. Perhaps the Bears should take a deeper look into trading for Josh Sweat, who the Arizona Cardinals have reportedly placed on the trade block. If you’ll recall, Sweat was a rumored Bears free-agent target in March 2025 — the same offseason the team signed Dayo Odeyingbo. I can’t front: There is a part of me that is down for a Josh Sweat trade because I think we can do some cool Sweat Bros content with Josh and Montez. Yes, I know they’re not actual brothers. But don’t let that stop you from dreaming of the Bears boosting their defensive line. Montez Sweat celebrates after a sack against the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images I’m curious to see how things shake out along the offensive line during OTAs. Last year, we saw the offseason churn through all of the left tackle options, and I feel as if we’ll see that again this year. Braxton Jones, Jedrick Wills Jr., and Theo Benedet are the top options right now. But let’s not forget that Benedet wasn’t on the radar as a left tackle option until the summertime. So, with that in mind, perhaps we should be on the lookout for sleepers who aren’t top of mind. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) May 27, 2026 The Los Angeles Chargers are making Derwin James the NFL’s highest-paid safety … again. CBS Sports has the details of James’ new deal with the Chargers, which includes $57.5 million guaranteed, and comes with a $25.2 million per-year average. This marks the second time in his career that James has reset the safety market. James was one of my favorite prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft, and has gone on to make me feel good about that stance with five Pro Bowls, three second-team All-Pro nods, and one first-team All-Pro nomination. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is joining the Cleveland Guardians’ ownership group as a minority investor. That’s pretty neat. To be a part owner (even if it is a minority stake) of a team you grew up watching at home is one of those life goals that so many kids dream of but can never accomplish. The folks at FOX Sports have a list of 10 players who could come through big in their contract years. Players who make this list who I’ll be watching from afar to see if they will (1) hit the market and (2) be fits for the Bears next offseason include New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Myles Murphy, and Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Riq Woolen.FOLLOW BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
Even though watching the Cubs has been a pain in the butt, reading Tony Andracki at BN has been wonderful. Andracki’s dive into where the blame should lie for the Chicago Cubs’ losing streak is a must-read in my eyes. The Chicago Bulls are reportedly interested in trading for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Should they do it? And if so, which player should they target? Why an upcoming NHL deadline is an “important” footnote on Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson’s draft record.More Bears From Bleacher Nation: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
