Junior Nationals qualifier Zaki Ibrahim has announced his verbal commitment to swim for the University of Arizona beginning in the fall of 2027.
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Arizona! I want to thank God for guiding me to where I am today and I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for all the support throughout my journey. I also want to thank the coaching staff at Arizona for giving me this opportunity. BEAR DOWN!!”
A mid-distance and distance freestyler from Tennessee, Ibrahim trains at Excel Aquatics under Coach JJ Langhals. The rising senior also competes at the high school level for Middle Tennessee Home Education Association (MTHEA) after swimming for Brentwood High School his freshman year.
At the 2025 Speedo Winter Junior Championship – East in December, Ibrahim logged a series of fast swims, setting three new personal best times. He placed 22nd in the 200 free in 1:39.24 after posting a best time of 1:38.41 during prelims, and he placed 23rd in the 1000 free in a lifetime best time of 9:18.62. He also posted a best time in the 100 free (45.88) and a season-best time in the 500 free (4:30.67).
Ibrahim continued to deliver strong performances at the 2026 TISCA (Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association) State Championship in February. He snagged the runner-up spot in the 500 free (4:26.19) and took 4th in the 200 free (1:37.90), logging lifetime best times in both events.
A month later, Ibrahim competed at the NCSA Spring Championship in March, where he earned a second swim in one event. He placed 13th in the 1650 free (15:33.28 – PB), 19th in the 200 free (1:38.35), 35th in the 100 fly (49.37), 36th in the 100 free (46.22) and 37th in the 200 fly (1:50.68). He also contested the 100 back (49.91 – PB) and 200 back (1:52.23).
Ibrahim also holds a lifetime best time of 1:48.67 in the 200 fly from the 2026 Southeastern Championship Meet.
Ibrahim competed at the 2025 Junior National Championships (LCM) last summer, contesting the 200 free (1:57.30) and 400 free (4:06.13 – PB).

The Wildcats took 2nd at the conference championships this past season before sending six athletes to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championship, where they placed 27th overall.
Based on the results from the 2026 Big 12 Conference Championships, Ibrahim would have placed 19th in the 1650 free and landed in the ‘C’ final in the 500 free and 200 fly, setting him up to score some points early on.
With another full season to go before Ibrahim heads to Arizona, it remains to be seen exactly how the roster will shake out, but he currently looks poised to be a strong contributor when he joins the Wildcats.
Currently set to join Ibrahim in Arizona’s class of 2031 are Brecken Egeland (free/fly) and Charlie McCuiston (free/breast), who should both make for strong training partners over their four years together.
