Norris doesn’t ‘want to say no’ to Indy 500 after Speedway visit ...Middle East

Sport by : (F1 News) -

There’s a version of Lando Norris’ racing future that still belongs entirely to Formula 1 – and another, slightly more chaotic, high-speed alternate timeline where the Brit finds himself screaming down the Speedway in the Indianapolis 500.

After a whirlwind 48 hours that stretched from Montreal heartbreak to a pilgrimage through Indianapolis, Norris didn’t just flirt with the idea of American open-wheel racing – he left it hanging very much alive.

On the same weekend as the legendary Indy 500, Norris endured a brutal swing of fortune: a retirement from the Canadian Grand Prix due to gearbox failure, followed by an immediate flight into IndyCar country.

There, he reunited with familiar faces including former McLaren teammate Daniel Ricciardo and Indy 500 finisher Conor Daly, before diving into a packed McLaren hospitality schedule at the Speedway.

On Monday, he toured McLaren’s Indianapolis base, rode shotgun in a Corvette around the hallowed oval with Arrow McLaren team boss Tony Kanaan, congratulated winner Felix Rosenqvist, and even absorbed the sport’s history alongside Zak Brown and Roger Penske inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.

It was, in short, a full immersion into a world that increasingly feels less like a parallel universe and more like a possible second chapter.

‘You never know’

When asked directly whether the Indy 500 could one day be on his bucket list, Norris didn’t reach for the brake pedal. He leaned into the uncertainty –and into curiosity.

“I never know. You never know. I don’t want to say no,” said Norris.

That alone would have been enough to set the paddock speculating. But Norris went further, sketching out a broader appetite for racing beyond Formula 1.

“I certainly want to try things outside of Formula 1. I love Formula 1 more than anything but at the same time, I love everything,” he added.

“I love bikes, I love rally, I love IndyCar – just all racing in general. Whether it is the Indy 500 or just IndyCar in general.”

It certainly wasn’t a commitment. But it wasn’t a denial. The idea of adding an oval crown jewel into the mix suddenly doesn’t feel entirely outlandish for Norris.

Triple Crown talk — and a McLaren-shaped ambition

McLaren’s massive motorsport footprint inevitably sharpens the conversation. The team’s presence in IndyCar and its upcoming endurance racing ambitions have quietly reopened the door to motorsport’s most exclusive club: the Triple Crown.

Norris, who has already stood atop Monaco’s podium, acknowledged the narrative without fully buying into it – yet also without closing it off.

Lando Norris had a chance on Monday to congratulate 2026 Indy 500 winner, Felix Rosenqvist.

“It’s obviously part of the Triple Crown for McLaren as well,” said Norris. “I won Monaco, which is part one done. Obviously got a championship now under my belt. There are two more to do.

“I’ve never had a thought about trying to achieve the Triple Crown, but obviously I’ve ticked one of the boxes already. Now I’ve come here. It’s a warm-up for it all.

“Seeing Fernando attempt it and things like that always makes it more inviting. So you never know.

“I would want to experience it,” he added. “Maybe not that actual race at the minute, but just a lap around here in an IndyCar would be pretty gnarly – maybe one day.”

There’s a telling nuance there: not a rejection of the Indy 500, but a staged curiosity. First a lap. Then maybe more. Then, perhaps, the full 500-mile baptism.

For now, Norris returns to Formula 1 with a points fight still simmering. But one thing is now harder to ignore than ever: Norris didn’t just visit the Indy 500 world, he looked around, listened closely – and left the door wide open.
