ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It was not a pleasant start to the holiday weekend with soaking rainfall on Saturday. Most communities measured well over an inch of rain during the last 36 hours. Unfortunately, there will be another round of showers this Sunday evening, but this episode of rain will not last as long for Western New York. The News10NBC First Alert meteorologists anticipate that the wet weather will move east of Rochester during the early morning hours. This should leave plenty of time for the dry weather to return with an overall pleasant end to the holiday weekend.
Tonight, look for occasional showers to develop around early to mid-evening. The rain will be off and on for most of this Sunday night. The low temperature will be in the middle 50s. Memorial Day will start with overcast skies, but it will be dry. Then sunshine is expected to return for Monday afternoon. The high temperature should reach the lower 70s, but it will be cooler near Lake Ontario.
A ridge of high pressure will slowly move across the Great Lakes until the middle of the week. More of a southwesterly wind will arrive for Tuesday bringing noticeably warmer temperatures with the thermometer pushing closer to 80 degrees.
Then a weak cold front arrives Wednesday bringing the temperature down through the 70s and eventually into the middle 60s for Thursday. However, it appears we will see an extended period of dry weather that will likely last though next weekend.
