Day two of the 2026 NOVA Speedo Grand Challenge saw more top swims posted by the age group stars in attendance, with Gabi Brito leading the charge.

Brito, who trains with Beach Cities Alpha, clinched the victory in the women’s 100 fly with a lifetime best time of 59.05 on Saturday night. The 15-year-old shaved .44 off of her previous personal best, which she set in August 2025.

Brito’s performance marks the 2nd-fastest time in the country so far this season in the girls’ 15-16 age group, putting her just behind Audrey Derivaux (58.68) in the national ranking.

Her swim also bumped her up the all-time top 100 times list, tying her at 21st with Lucy Bell. Brito previously sat in the #34 spot with her performance from last season.

Also landing himself on the all-time list for his age group was 12-year-old Leo Liu. He threw down a top performance in the boys’ 7-12 100 breast, winning the event by over two-and-a-half seconds with a time of 1:12.01.

Liu, who swims for Rose Bowl Aquatics, knocked just over a second off of his former lifetime best (1:13.20) from a few weeks ago to land himself atop the season’s national rankings for the boys’ 11-12 age group. He is the only swimmer on the list to have broken the 1:13 barrier thus far in the season.

Liu also cracked the boys’ 11-12 all-time top 100 times list for the first time in this event, landing at 47th all-time with his performance in Irvine. This marks Liu’s second top 100 worthy swim at the meet, having tied for 84th on the boys’ 11-12 all-time ranking in the 50 breast (33.16) on day one.

The young age group stars continued to deliver, as Annabelle Hayes of Irvine Novaquatics and Jasper Ye of Aquazot Swim Club both topped the season’s national rankings in their respective age group categories for the 50 back.

Hayes, 11, won the girls’ 7-12 50 back in 31.95, dropping a full second over the course of the day after first posting a time of 32.52 during prelims. She narrowly beat out runner-up Isla Hodge (31.99) from Socal Aquatics Association, with the duo now holding the top two spots on the ranking of top times this season in the girls’ 11-12 50 back.

Meanwhile Ye, 12, prevailed in the boys’ 7-12 50 back by well over half a second, throwing down a personal best time of 30.27 to launch himself to the top of the season’s rankings in the boys’ 11-12 age group. He came into the meet with a lifetime best time of 32.71 from April, logging a significant improvement during yesterday’s competition.
