Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Winter Juniors qualifier and New Mexico high school state champion Josiah Jacobson will be hopping across the state line to swim for Colorado Mesa University beginning in the fall of 2027.

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at Colorado Mesa University. I want to thank Coach Mike and Matt and all of the coaches that have helped me get to where I am today. Another thanks to Coach Wender and Coach Andy over at CMU for this amazing opportunity. I’m also incredibly grateful for my parents and friends for their constant support throughout this process. GO MAVS”

A junior at Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School in Albuquerque, Jacobson started swimming for the school team as a freshman alongside his twin brother Jayden. In addition to representing Cottonwood, Jacobson currently trains year-round with Roadrunners of Albuquerque Aquatic Club, where he primarily specializes in free, fly and IM.

Jacobson has qualified for the NMAA (New Mexico Activities Association) State Championships three years in a row. At the 2026 iteration of the meet in February, he became the state champion in the 500 free (4:37.29) [4:32.29 altitude adjusted] and placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:43.16 – PB) [1:41.96 altitude adjusted].

At the Western Zone Senior Championships in March, Jacobson posted four new lifetime best times. He won the 1650 free (15:49.43) and placed 2nd in the 200 free (1:42.99) and 500 free (4:36.68), 10th in the 400 IM (4:09.28 – PB) and 45th in the 100 fly (55.27 – PB). He also placed 12th in the 200 fly (1:58.51) after setting a personal best time of 1:58.42 during prelims, and he contested the 200 IM (1:58.82 – PB).

Jacobson boasts a lifetime best time of 9:17.80 in the 1000 free from the 2025 Winter Junior Championships – East in December, where he finished 28th overall.

Jacobson made significant strides in his times this past season, registering a number of remarkable time drops from where he stood during the 2024-2025 season.

Best Time SCY Progression

Event 2024-2025 Lifetime Best 2025-2026 Lifetime Best 200 free 1:46.05 1:41.96 500 free 4:39.50 4:32.29 1000 free 9:29.34 9:17.80 1650 free 15:42.34 15:42.34 100 fly 57.38 55.27 200 fly 2:05.26 1:58.42 200 IM 2:04.08 1:58.82 400 IM 4:16.63 4:09.28

Jacobson holds two New Mexico Swimming LSC records for the boys 15-16 age group in long course meters: the 800 free (8:33.46) and 1500 free (16:06.10). He was also named to the 2025 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team.

A Division II program, CMU competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, with the men’s team winning its eighth consecutive RMAC Championship this past season. The Mavericks sent 18 athletes to compete at the NCAA Division II Championships in March, where they took 3rd-place overall.

Based on the results from the 2026 RMAC Championships, Jacobson notably would have won the 1000 free and 1650 free and would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 500 free and the ‘B’ final in the 200 free, 200 fly and 400 IM, setting him up to be a key contributor right from the start. Jacobson’s time in the 1000 free would also have been good enough for a 22nd-place finish at the NCAA Championships, while his time in the 1650 would have placed 24th.

Jacobson shared an additional comment on his decision to continue his academic and athletic careers at CMU.

“The school is really close to home, it is the perfect size for me, the team culture is amazing, and the coaching staff is also great,” Jacobson said. “There are also a lot of fun things to do in Grand Junction.”

Jacobson is currently the only confirmed recruit committed to CMU for fall 2027, but with another full season to go before he arrives, there is still plenty of time for the roster to get shaken up.
