Alabama softball opened its Super Regional series dominantly Friday night, defeating LSU 7-0 at Rhoads Stadium to make them one win away from a trip to the Women’s College World Series.
The Crimson Tide leaned on strong pitching from SEC Pitcher of the Year Jocelyn Briski while the offense steadily built momentum throughout the night. Alabama struck first in the opening inning as second baseman Jena Young and right fielder Ana Roman crossed the plate to give the Crimson Tide an early 2-0 advantage.
After a quiet second inning for both teams, Alabama added to its lead in the third when designated player Alexis Pupillo launched her 18th home run of the season, extending the lead to 3-0. LSU remained scoreless through the top of the fourth before Alabama’s bats broke the game open. Left fielder Audrey Vandagriff, center fielder Kristen White and shortstop Salen Hawkins all scored in the inning, doubling the Crimson Tide’s lead to 6-0.
