Tan, who swims for San Ramon Valley Aquatics, knocked almost two seconds off of her previous personal best time of 2:28.11 from the TERA Senior Open just last month. Her performance during the semifinals launched her up the national rankings, marking the fastest time this season in the girls’ 15-16 age group and landing her at #7 on the ranking of all-time top 100 times in her age group.
The youngest competitor to qualify for the 200 breast final, Tan narrowly beat out runner-up Aliz Kalmar (2:27.05) for the top spot on Thursday night, with the pair being the only two in the field to break 2:30.
Tan split 1:10.73 on the opening 100 of her race, exactly one second faster than the opening split from her previous best time, before coming home in 1:15.64 to race past Kalmar, who posted splits of 1:10.37/1:16.68.
Earlier in the meet, Tan took 3rd in the 50 breast in 31.14 and 4th in the 200 IM in 2:14.92, setting new lifetime best times in both events.
Coming from a family of swimmers, Tan is one-fourth of a talented group of siblings. Her older brother Zachary Tan recently wrapped up his sophomore season with Cal, while her younger siblings Ayden Tan (13 years old) and Kyra Tan (11 years old) are both forces to be reckoned with in their respective age groups.
While she is based in the United States, Tan has represented Singapore on the international stage, most notably at the 2025 World Aquatics Junior Championships last summer.
Tan will take on the finals of the 200 breast this evening and is the #7 seed heading into the preliminary heats of the 100 breast on Saturday morning.
