PHOENIX — Corbin Carroll smacked a walk-off single to right field on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies, giving the Arizona Diamondbacks a 2-1 win at Chase Field to open the four-game series.
This was the second walk-off win of the week for Arizona, after Ketel Marte’s game-winning home run on Tuesday.
The Diamondbacks have won five straight games to improve to 26-23.
Carroll came up with two runners on and two outs in the ninth inning against right-hander Juan Mejia. On a 2-2 pitch, Carroll punched a hanging sweep through the 3-4 hole. Gabriel Moreno scored the winning run. Moreno and Marte walked to set the table for Carroll.
The D-backs are 6-1 against the Rockies and San Francisco Giants over the past week.
Diamondbacks starter Eduardo Rodriguez threw seven scoreless innings, as his last three home starts have been dominant. The lefty has tossed 22.1 innings with one earned run in his last three appearances at Chase Field. He has delivered at least seven innings in three of his last four starts.
Rodriguez did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. He finished with four hits allowed, one walk and four strikeouts. His ERA lowered to 2.24.
The Diamondbacks’ offense gave him no run support, as Rockies starter Zach Agnos, a long reliever, threw five scoreless frames.
No runs scored in this game until the sixth, when Arizona built an inning with a Ryan Waldschmidt lead-off walk and Marte single. Waldschmidt skipped over to third base on the knock and scored on a Corbin Carroll fielder’s choice.
For Marte, that single marked his fifth multi-hit game out of his last seven played.
