A 13-year-old boy is hospitalized in critical condition after he was shot in the head Wednesday afternoon in Chicago, authorities said.
Around 2:50 p.m., Chicago police responded to a call for service on the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue in the city’s South Chicago neighborhood and found a 13-year-old boy with a gunshot wound in the head.
The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition, authorities said.
Epic Academy, a Chicago Public Schools high school located at 8255 S. Houston Ave., is just around the corner from where the shooting occurred. It was not immediately known if the school was impacted by the incident or if the victim is a student at the school. CPS did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s inquiry.
Area Two detectives are investigating.
