Thousands of Chicago-area home listings removed from Zillow over dispute ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Thousands of Chicago-area home listings will no longer be featured on some of the most popular real estate websites after a feed was turned off.

Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED) announced Wednesday that Zillow will no longer have access to its licensed listing data after it alleged the company “refused to cure a material breach of its license agreements governing the display of MRED listing data.” The removal of listings will apply to both Zillow and Trulia.

“In a striking lesson in irony, Zillow has chosen not to display 43,000 MRED listings because it demands the right, and has filed a federal antitrust lawsuit to secure that right – to exclude nine listings it disfavors,” the suburban company said in a statement.

Zillow, however, argued the rules it is accused of breaking “didn’t exist when Zillow signed its agreement” and said the listings it is being asked to display “go against Zillow’s belief in an open and transparent housing market.”

“Chicagoland home buyers and sellers this morning have far worse access to the housing market than they had yesterday, because their local MLS decided one megabrokerage’s profits mattered more than their ability to achieve the American Dream,” Zillow said in a statement.

The move impacts both potential buyers and sellers, whose listings may not be seen by as many people, though listings will remain active on other popular real estate sites like Redfin, Realtor.com and more.

In April, MRED announced a “nationwide expansion of its MLS service, including the Private Listing Network (PLN), to any licensed agent.” The company noted that Compass International Holdings were “the first brokerage to commit to providing its nationwide inventory of listings.”

But Zillow argued “any listing that was publicly marketed to some buyers but hidden from others isn’t eligible for display on Zillow later.”

It was not immediately clear when all current MRED listings would be removed from Zillow.

“This suspension denies Zillow the right to publicly display licensed MRED data unless and until it returns to compliance with its license agreements. The choice is Zillow’s,” MRED said in its release.
