WYOMING COUNTY, N.Y. — The man convicted of killing a 7-year-old girl in Wyoming County has his parole hearing this week.
Angel Colon sexually abused and killed Samantha Zaldivar back in 1997. Her body was found in a field not far from her home in Hermitage.
Colon admitted to killing Samantha and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. According to News10NBC’s affiliate in Buffalo, Colon gave a statement to investigators that he smothered the child with a pillow inside her mother’s home after she wouldn’t stop crying. He has served more than 27 years so far.
Due to a plea deal, Colon wasn’t convicted of sexual abuse charges and therefore won’t be required to register as a sex offender if released. After his hearing, the parole board will have two weeks to give its decision.
