Fort Wayne Swim team’s Naomi Bowland has announced her commitment to the University of Missouri as a member of the Tiger women’s 2027 recruiting class.
Bowland wrote the following regarding her commitment:
I am so incredibly blessed to be announcing my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Missouri! I’m extremely grateful for all my family, friends, and coaches that have supported me through all my years of swimming, and who have helped me get to the point I’m at today. A big thanks to Coach Grevers and the staff at Mizzou for this amazing opportunity. Go tigers!!
Bowland, who attends Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, was a member of two state championship-winning relays for Carroll, including a 23.33 anchor split on the 200 free relay and a 52.12 split on the 400 free relay. Primarily a breaststroker, Bowland swam a lifetime best to finish 4th at those state championships in the 100 breast, clocking 1:01.67.
About two months ago, Bowland raced at the Indiana Swimming Senior Championships, where she clocked a pair of career-best times; she swam a 52.58 in the individual 100 free, marking her first time under 53 seconds, having previously been 53.02 at the Winter Junior Championships East in December. She also swam a best 200 breast time of 2:16.24, a massive time drop from her previous best of 2:19.00 from those Winter Junior Championships.

100 Breast: 1:01.67 200 Breast: 2:16.24 50 Free: 23.97 100 Free: 52.58 200 IM: 2:08.22The Missouri women’s team finished 1oth at the 2026 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships this past February.
Based on Bowland’s best times, she would have finished 30th in the 1oo breast, 41st in the 200 breast, and 73rd in the 100 free at those championships.
Bowland is still a full year out from making her college debut and about a year and a half out from her first conference championships. But with the recent success she has shown, she could very well be on her way to a solid opening campaign with Missouri.
Her best time is within a half second of scoring in the 100 breast; this past year, the 24th-place finisher touched in 1:01.19. There is still a solid amount of time for Bowland to reach that range and make the jump to contribute to the Tiger women’s effort to move up in a competitive SEC.
Finding the 3rd event will be important for Bowland; whether that leans her toward freestyle or IM will be the question.
Missouri scored 57 points between the 100 and 200 breaststroke events this past season, but all three of the point scorers from the 100 breast will not be on the roster by the time that Bowland gets on campus, making this an immediate need and a big get for the Tigers.
Bowland joins Lilia Barber in the 2027 recruiting class for Missouri.
