Longtime Russell Hill Community homemaker, Mrs.Mary Frances Huffines Russell, transitioned from her earthly journey to her heavenly home at 5:13 a.m. Saturday morning May 16, 2026 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs with her family at her bedside. She was admitted March 18th, 2026 with heart complications and was pronounced deceased at 6:08 a.m. by Aveanna Hospice of Hendersonville. She was 99 and only twenty-two days from the age 100 mark.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home will be conducted on Tuesday morning May 19th at 11 a.m. with Hugh Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will follow by her husband and infant daughter in the Russell Family Cemetery on Defeated Creek Road on the Russell family farm.
Visitation with the Russell family will be on Monday May 18th at from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday after 9 a.m. Sanderson in Carthage
She was one of six children and the last surviving of the late Leslie James Huffines who died at the age of 87 on August 17, 1987 and Hattie May Long Huffines who died at the age of 98 on October 6, 2000 and was born Mary Frances Huffines in the Haydenburg Community of Jackson County on June 7, 1926.
Siblings preceding her in death were James Merlene Huffines who died at birth, Hattie Molene Huffines Witt who died May 28, 2006 at the age of 84, Bobby Gray Huffines who died December 9, 1997 at the age of 61, Charles Wayne Huffines who died December 9, 1997 at the age of 61, Byrd Lee Huffines who died May 27, 2022 at the age of 93.
Mrs. Russell was united in marriage in Ringgold, Georgia to Russell Hill Community native, Lutrell Russell who preceded her in death on January 9, 1986 at the age of 66 following almost forty-five years of marriage.
Mr. Lutrell and Mrs. Frances experienced the devasting loss of a daughter, Nancy Gail Russell who died at the age of 6 weeks old on September 17, 1953.
Mrs. Russell retired as a grocery checker from the Bill Martin Cee Bee Store in Red Boiling Springs in 1991.
In September 1942 she was baptized for the remission of her sins by Harold Sain and was a longtime member of the Willette Church of Christ.
Surviving is her only son, Jackie Russell and wife Connie Halliburton Rusell; two grandchildren, grandson, Jackie Wayne Russell and wife Rachel Nixon Russell, granddaughter, Linda Gail Russell, all of the Russell Hill Community; two great-grandchildren, John Lutrell Russell and wife Bre of the Russell Hill Community, Jacob Dale Williams and wife Elisia of Red Boiling Springs; one great- great-granddaughter, Everly Faye Williams of Red Boiling Springs.
