“We are proud that the 128th Rochester Lilac Festival was the highest-attended in recent memory, with more than 500,000 visitors coming together for 10 days (100 hrs.) of lilacs, free music, and family entertainment, supporting hundreds of local vendors, artists, musicians, and small businesses.
This year’s festival also had the strongest safety measures in festival history, with enhanced entry points, strict enforcement of bag and chaperone policies, and a significant increase in professional security personnel– up to 90 on duty at any given time.
After reaching max capacity on Sunday evening, entry points were closed 75 minutes early, in accordance with established safety protocols. That same evening, a small number of individuals engaged in disruptive behavior and were immediately ejected from the grounds and turned over to RPD.
The Rochester Lilac Festival has a zero-tolerance policy for violence of any kind. We will continue working alongside the Lilac Festival Board and community partners to evaluate opportunities for additional enhancements, so the community can enjoy this cherished family tradition for years to come.”
