Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow weather warnings for several districts of Odisha as thunderstorm and rainfall activity is expected to intensify over the next few days amid the advancement of the southwest monsoon.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the southwest monsoon has advanced further into parts of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and the Andaman region. Conditions are favourable for its further progress into more parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, the Comorin region and the east-central Bay of Bengal during the next three to four days. The IMD has also indicated that the monsoon is likely to reach Kerala around May 26.
Several parts of Odisha, including districts like Ganjam, Rayagada, Nayagarh and Mayurbhanj, have already witnessed light to moderate rainfall. Areas such as Sheragada, Aska, Madhabarida and Sankheimundi recorded notable rain activity.

Residents have been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees or in open fields, unplug electrical appliances during lightning activity and stay away from water bodies and metal objects.
