After an afternoon of summer-like weather, the Chicago area could see showers and thunderstorms scattered across the region in the evening and overnight Saturday ahead of more stormy days.
The National Weather Service warned additional storms could fall on areas north of I-80 on Sunday morning, and greater chances of thunderstorms are on the forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
The greatest potential for storms on Saturday is around 8 to 9 p.m., with chances continuing overnight, according to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack.
“If storms develop, they could produce locally strong winds. Additional showers and storms appear likely overnight, especially west of the Fox Valley,” NWS said.
Saturday’s storms rank at a risk level 1 out of 5 for severe weather, NWS said.
After a chillier Sunday morning in the mid-60s, temperatures are expected to climb up to a high in the mid-80s by the afternoon.
Monday brings a greater chance of severe storms than over the weekend, though timing and intensity of the storms remains uncertain, according to NWS.
Both Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana are under a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather on Monday.
Strong to severe storms are possible again on Tuesday, NWS said, though they are expected mainly east and south of I-55.
