2026 NEW ZEALAND SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wednesday, May 13th – Sunday, May 17th Sir Owen G. Glenn National Aquatic Centre LCM (50m) Meet Central Day 1 Recap/Day 2 Recap Results Livestream

Day three of the 2026 New Zealand Swimming Championships took place tonight from the Sir Owen G. Glenn National Aquatic Centre, with Olympic finalist and Commonwealth Games champion Lewis Clareburt wrangling up another victory.

26-year-old Clareburt got to the wall first in the men’s 200m freestyle, clocking a time of 1:46.60 for the decisive victory.

Splitting 24.92/26.60 (51.52)/27.59/27.49, Clareburt touched in one of just two times under the 1:50 barrier of the final.

Joining him under the threshold was James Leigh who snagged silver in 1:49.07, while Harvey Larke of Australia rounded out the podium in 1:50.20.

For Clareburt, his effort this evening represents the 2nd-best time of his illustrious career, one that boasts a lifetime best and New Zealand national record of 1:45.57 from last month’s Australian Open. That prior outing ranks him 12th in the world at the moment.

National record holder and world champion Erika Fairweather was back in the water as well this evening, taking on the women’s 1500m freestyle event.

22-year-old Fairweather delivered a powerful performance of 15:58.26 to notch the sole time of the field under 16:11.

Eve Thomas reaped silver in 16:11.20, followed closely by Caitlin Deans, who bagged the bronze in 16:11.42.

For Fairweather, her outing tonight represents her first-ever foray under the 16:00 barrier, surpassing her previous lifetime best of 16:06.97 from February’s Queensland Championships.

Fairweather now ranks 6th in the world on the season in the women’s 1500m free event.

The teen notched a winning effort of 1:59.07, not only a new lifetime best but also a new New Zealand National Age Record in the event.

Muchirahondo spkit 28.32/30.30 (58.62)/30.46/29.99 to top the podium.
