ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Brothers Brennan and Luke Carney are being honored for stepping up and helping an altar server who fainted in church.
The two Gates-Chili students are among this year’s recipients of the Do the Right Thing awards. When the altar server collapsed last December at St. Pius X Church, Luke jumped into action, remembering CPR and first aid training he learned from the Gates Fire District. Brennan then swapped with Luke to finish the service while Luke helped the altar server. The altar server made a full recovery.
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
The Rochester Police Department has held the Do the Right Thing awards since 1995. You can learn more about nominating a student here.
