ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County has a warning about a scam targeting people who receive federal food assistance benefits through SNAP.
County Executive Adam Bello says people have gotten calls and texts from an 877 area code, claiming to be from the county’s Department of Human Services and asking for personal information. He says DHS will never call without a scheduled appointment or ask for your EBT card PIN.
Anyone with questions about SNAP or their EBT card should call (585) 753-2740. More than 100,000 people in Monroe County rely on SNAP, accounting for about one in seven residents. Across the U.S., about 42 million people rely on SNAP.
