ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two sisters, Kailani Thomas and Kendyl Scott from Rochester, are being honored for helping to save their mother during an allergic reaction.
The two RCSD students are among this year’s recipients of the Do the Right Thing awards. They were at home in December when their mom had a severe allergic reaction and started having seizures. Her daughters called 911, and thanks to their quick thinking, she recovered after spending several days in the hospital. Kailani described the moment when she realized that she needed to call for help.
“I was like, mom, are you ok? And all I saw was her just shaking. And I was like, oh my gosh, I’m panicking. And then I grabbed the phone. I called 911,” she said.
When Kailani and Kendyl got their award last week, they had this message: “We love you, mom.”
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
