RPD remembers fallen officers in honor of National Police Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Police Department held its first memorial service for fallen officers Monday in honor of National Police Week.

Officers read all 16 names on the memorial for fallen officers at First Responder’s Circle at the Civic Center Plaza on Exchange Boulevard. A bell rang after each name was read.

“Police Officer Anthony Patrick Mazurkiewicz. End of watch, July 21, 2022,” an officer said.

National Police Week was established in 1962 to honor law enforcement’s bravery and sacrifices.

“National Police Week continues to remind us of the courage, service, and sacrifice behind the badge and the enduring legacy of those who gave their lives in protection of others,” said Capt. Greg Bello.

RPD’s memorial for fallen officers was relocated to its current location in 2022 after it was vandalized in front of the Public Safety Building during protests in 2020.
