Freestyle and butterfly specialist Madi Hertzig will continue her swimming career at Yale University beginning in the fall of 2027. Based in North Carolina, Hertzig attends Charlotte Catholic High School in Charlotte and trains with Mecklenburg Swim Association in Marvin.

Hertzig won the 100 fly at the 2026 NCHSAA 6A State Championship (SCY) in February, setting a lifetime-best time of 55.30. Representing Charlotte Catholic High School, she also earned a runner-up finish in the 200 free (1:50.26).
A month later, at the 2026 Speedo Sectionals (SCY) in Cary, Hertzig posted three more lifetime bests in the 100 free (50.75), 200 free (1:49.88), and 500 free (4:58.53). She recorded her 100 free best time as the leadoff swimmer on her team’s winning 400 free relay, while her 200 free mark came during a time trial. In addition, Hertzig placed 11th in the 200 free (1:50.00), 12th in the 100 fly (56.54), 15th in the 100 free (51.19), and 23rd in the 50 free (24.22).
At the 2025 North Carolina Senior Championships (SCY) in February, Hertzig posted an all-time best in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.75. She also finished 5th in the 100 fly (56.24) and 8th in the 200 free (1:52.72).

Hertzig can help strengthen the team’s freestyle and butterfly groups. Yale’s fastest times last season in the 200 free (1:46.67) and 100 fly (54.09) were posted by Julia Ebli and Penny Zarczynski, respectively.
Chloe Meyer-Blohm, Enna O’Young, Sasha Karafin, and Lacey Strachan will join Hertzig on campus in 2027. Karafin holds strong times in the 200 free (1:50.50) and 500 free (4:52.28).
