For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Gold Medal Swim Club’s Porter Ellsworth has committed to Arizona State University as a member of the Sun Devil men for the fall of 2027.

Ellsworth wrote the following regarding his commitment.

I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Arizona State University! I would like to thank Coach Sam, Coach Mike, Coach Julianne, and my parents for helping me get to where I am today. I would also like to thank Coach Herbie, Coach Daniel, and the rest of the ASU coaching staff for giving me this amazing opportunity! LETS GO DEVILS!!!

In November, at the AIA Division II State Championships, Ellsworth won the 500 free and 200 IM while representing Campo Verde High School. In the 500 free, he notched a new lifetime best in 4:33.48 in finals after clocking a best time in the prelims at 4:35.10 (though he later bested that time at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships West in December in 4:28.73). He also took home the win in the 200 IM in 1:51.78, which at the time was a lifetime best.

As a sophomore, Ellsworth was a two-time 3rd-place finisher at the AIA Division II State Championships in 2024, racing both the 100 fly (52.43) and the 200 IM (1:56.77).

In March, Ellsworth rewrote his personal record book at the Four Corners Speedo Sectional Championships. He swam career-best short-course times in the 100 free (45.08), 200 free (1:39.30), 200 IM (1:50.90), 400 IM (3:54.41), and 200 fly (1:48.39).

Best Times SCY:

100 Free: 45.08 200 Free: 1:39.30 500 Free: 4:28.73 1000 Free: 9:34.72 200 IM: 1:50.90 400 IM: 3:54.41 100 Fly: 49.36 200 Fly: 1:48.39

The Sun Devil men continued their reign atop the Big 12 Swimming and Diving standings by capturing the 2026 conference title.

Based on Ellsworth’s best times, he would have qualified for the ‘C’ final in the 400 IM (21st) and would have finished just outside the scoring range in the 100 free and 500 free (29th in both).

Unfortunately, the 200 free falls on the same day as the 400 IM, but the range is apparent; being able to swim several mid-distance events across multiple strokes could prove to be a big asset.

Ellsworth has shown major improvement in the last 18 months alone, and with another full year of training before his collegiate career gets underway, he could be inside scoring range as a freshman.

The Sun Devils are among the most elite programs in the country, and Ellsworth really bolsters the depths of a team just a few years removed from a men’s national championship.

Arizona State captured the men’s Big 12 title by more than 300 points; among their 1898.5 points, 81 of them came in the 500 free, 65 came in the 400 IM, and a whopping 175 were earned in the 100 free.

Ellsworth joins Miroslav Terziev, Landon Hall, Thor Johannessen, Aidan Collins, Ben Jaggers, Harrison Tater, and Gavin Halusic in the 2027 recruiting class for the Sun Devils.
