ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter Makes a Bold Prediction About the 2026 Chicago Bears Schedule ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The closer we get to the official NFL schedule release, the more I believe the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks are on a collision course to square off in Week 1 to open the season.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter shares his prediction that the Bears will play the Seahawks in the Wednesday night opener in Seattle. Here is the clip:

"Every day there seems to be another element of the schedule that comes out..We're gonna get the international games on Wednesday..My guess right now is that it will be the Bears in Seattle for the Wednesday night opener against the Seahawks" ~ @AdamSchefter #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/y6SVTpDI9e

“My guess, right now,” Schefter says, “is that it will be the Bears in Seattle for the Wednesday night opener against the Seahawks.”

We discussed this a bit in Monday’s BN Bears Bullets, but let’s expand and discuss the remaining possibilities for the Seahawks’ opponent as the team begins its Super Bowl defense:

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS — A Chiefs-Seahawks game would be ratings gold if Patrick Mahomes were healthy, but K.C.’s QB1 isn’t a lock to start in Week 1 as he comes off a season-ending knee injury. Does America really want to see Justin Fields (ICYMI: He’s there now) go against a Mike Macdonald defense in a hostile environment? I doubt it. But when Mahomes is healthy, this will be a marquee matchup that some network will want on its airwaves. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS — A battle between Jim Harbaugh and Mike Macdonald (who was Harbaugh’s defensive coordinator at Michigan in 2021) could have some juice. And I do like the idea of a Justin Herbert vs. Sam Darnold quarterback duel. However, I do not think that matchup will draw the type of ratings that NBC would want in its season opener. ARIZONA CARDINALS — Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love will likely be the No. 1 overall pick in dynasty fantasy football drafts across the country this year. But with all due respect to Love and his teammates, this isn’t a game that anyone outside of the two fanbases participating will care about. This game has a 1 PM Pacific Time start time written all over it. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS — If all things were equal, a Super Bowl LX rematch would be an easy choice for the NFL and NBC. But all things are not equal. The drama featuring Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel and former league insider Dianna Russini is a story that just won’t go away. I’m not sure the league would want that type of storyline serving as a distraction or side plot going into the season opener. There is a case to be made that the NFL could just rip the band-aid off and jump into the deep end. I’m just not sure if anyone will make that case.

That leaves us with one team…

Bears vs. Seahawks in Week 1? I can dig it…

At this point, the NFL and NBC shouldn’t overthink it. Plug the Bears in as the Seahawks’ opponent in Week 1 and let the players and coaches on each side cook.

Give the people the NFC Championship Game that it should have gotten last January. Put Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson against the defensive wizardry of Mike Macdonald to test his mettle from the get-go. Let us see what quarterback Caleb Williams can do against one of the league’s most fearsome defenses. A Coby Bryant revenge game (which he wants!) in Seattle would be fun. But also returning to the Pacific Northwest are University of Washington products Rome Odunze and Kyler Gordon. I’m sure Oregon Ducks fans would be curious to see rookie first-round safety Dillon Thieneman’s debut in primetime.
