2026 ACROPOLIS SWIM OPEN
Friday, May 8th – Sunday, May 10th Athens, Greece LCM (50m) Day 1 Recap Day 2 Recap Live ResultsThe final day of the 2026 Acroplis Open transpired last night from Athens, Greece, with Olympic medalist Apostolos Christou adding another title to his resume.
29-year-old Christou took on the men’s 100m backstroke, where he found success in a solid result of 52.53, beating his competitors by over a second en route to gold.
Opening in 25.30 and closing in 27.23, Christou handily held off teammate Eyangelos Makrygiannis, who secured the silver in 53.73, while Turkish athlete Mert Ali Satir rounded out the podium in 54.44.
Christou’s lifetime best in this 1back event checks in at the 52.09 he established in the semi-finals at the 2022 World Championships.
Last year in Singapore, Christou put up a time of 52.44 in the semi-finals before ultimately placing 8th in a final mark of 52.62.
On the women’s side, visiting Signe Nowak Gudmundsson of Sweden, just 14 years of age, busted out a new lifetime best of 25.29 to take the 50m freestyle event.
The youngest managed to hold off host nation swimmer Nefeli Bilanakou, who settled for silver just .06 behind in 25.35.
Lithuania’s Barbora Mileisyte also landed on the podium in 25.41, good enough for bronze.
Entering this competition, Nowak Gudmundsson’s lifetime best in this splash n’ dash stood at the 25.84 notched just in March of this year; therefore, she managed to hack over half a second off that former outing to log the new PB en route to gold.
For perspective, the Swede’s 25.29 result would render her the 4th-fastest American 13-14-year-old 50m freestyler of all time.
