ROCHESTER, N.Y. — According to a WARN layoff notice, the Children’s Institute will be laying off 34 jobs as the University of Rochester says it has decided to end its leased employee relationship with the institute.
The notice was filed by the New York State Department of Labor this month. The layoffs are expected to begin June 30.
In a statement to News10NBC, the university said the following:
“The collaborative research relationship between the Children’s Institute and the University of Rochester has made it possible to advance valuable community work in children’s social and emotional health for many years. When the relationship was established over 50 years ago, CI’s work and that of the University were more intertwined and interdependent, but today CI has greater independence and is capable of successfully operating on its own. Additionally, the priorities and resources of the University’s Department of Psychology and the School of Arts & Sciences are different than when this relationship first began. As a result, the University made the decision to conclude the leased employee relationship with CI, providing ample notification and flexibility to assist with this transition. We extend our gratitude to the Children’s Institute for the collaboration and shared achievements over the years.”
