ROCHESTER. N.Y. – Mother’s Day was a cool but lovely day, and we’ll keep that going into the start of the work week. We’ll see some clouds moving back in to start early Monday, with a stray shower possible Monday morning. Then high pressure builds back in, with more sunshine returning for the afternoon. Despite the sun, we’ll still hold in the mid 50s, which is about 10-15 degrees cooler than average for early to mid May.
Tuesday will start off chilly, with some areas of frost and temperatures in the lower to mid 30s. But we’ll also start the day with an abundance of sunshine. In fact, we’ll see sunshine most of the day. Clouds will thicken late in the day, with some showers arriving by late evening and overnight.
This will set the stage for the return of more unsettled and wetter weather Wednesday and Thursday with off and on showers and periods of rain. We’ll finally start to break the pattern of cooler than average temperatures by the end of the work week and especially into the weekend. Highs by the weekend will climb back into the upper 60s and lower 70s, which will be average or even slightly above, and that trend will likely grow into the following week.
