Multi-Olympic Games medalist Siobhan Haughey recently spoke with SwimSwam regarding her future events and goals, with the former University of Michigan Wolverine giving us insight into where she’s at with Los Angeles now, just about two years away.
The 4x Olympic medalist in the 100 & 200 freestyle recently showed her pedigree in Bergen, and maybe even 1-upped herself in the process. In the 200 free on night one of the Bergen Swim Festival, Haughey won the event and set the meet record in 1:54.31, a faster time than she went to win Olympic bronze in Paris.
In the 100 free the next night, Haughey gave 2x defending world champion Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands a run for her money, touching in 2nd at 52.40 to Steenbergen’s 52.33. Both times would have won world championships in Singapore last summer.
Speaking to SwimSwam recently, Haughey said that she’ll be going back to Singapore, followed by a stay in Europe until Sette Colli, before she travels on to the 2026 Asian Games.
“I want to make sure I’m not burnt out before that. I’m hoping to go to the World Cup, but that’s just one week after the Asian Games, so we’ll see if that’s too much. I also want to do Short Course Worlds.
“The goal is to go to LA 2028, but I’ll have a better idea after the Asian Games.”
