The 2026 college baseball postseason is just around the corner. In the SEC, teams will play their 10th and final weekend series Thursday-Saturday.
Sunday wraps up the 13th week of the season, and 9th weekend of conference play. Before Sunday’s games, college baseball insider Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball shared some thoughts focusing on the field of 64. Rogers noted that 3 significant tournament streaks are likely to end, including 2 SEC powers.
“Barring the teams winning their conference tournaments, the three longest postseason streaks will end: Vanderbilt (19), LSU (13), Dallas Baptist (11),” Rogers wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “I suppose Vandy isn’t ‘totally done’ — but they’ve got a 50-mile drive with 10 miles left on the tank.”

Rogers made his post at 11:12 a.m. ET. The Vandy-Mizzou and LSU-Georgia series finales are both currently in action.
Vanderbilt entered Sunday 11-15 in conference play and 29-23 overall. While the Commodores are above .500 overall and can still get to 13 conference wins, they’re dealing with a weak RPI. Vandy has a live RPI of No. 71, with a predicted RPI of No. 65, even with 4 more SEC wins.
LSU entered its series finale 9-17 in conference play and 29-23 overall. As defending national champions, many expect the Tigers to get the committee’s benefit of the doubt on the bubble, but the Bayou Bengals are in a bad spot with the No. 59 RPI. With Florida (34-18, 15-12) up next after the Georgia series finale, things aren’t looking good for LSU.
As Rogers stated, there is always the conference tournament automatic bid. Vandy or LSU could surprise everyone and snag the 2026 SEC Tournament champion bid. The action in Hoover, Alabama, begins on May 19.
