ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Saturday is starting out with some showers in the Southern Tier. This rain is clipping southern Livingston County and passing through Yates County through the morning, but Rochester is expected to stay dry through the morning with some cloud coverage. Any lingering widespread rain in the southern counties will move out by mid-day and sunshine will warm us up into the upper-60s. Our forecasted high temperature for Saturday is 68 degrees with light to moderate winds out of the southwest between 10 to 20 mph.

In general, Saturday afternoon will be a nice time to enjoy the Lilac Festival and other outdoor activities as sun pushes through the clouds. After 4 p.m. rain chances rise, and a scattered shower is possible. As we approach Saturday evening, a cold front will bring some scattered thundershowers after 6 p.m. A few of these storms could bring some gusty winds and some hail. However, due to the later timing of these storms and the very low threat of severe weather, we are staying green on the Threat Tracker right now. Of course, we will continue to monitor this front as it moves closer to our region and alert you to any changes.

Mother’s Day will stay quite a bit below average. High temperatures will reach near 57 degrees. Winds will stay out of the west/northwest around 10 to 15 mph, and a lake breeze will keep temperatures closer to 50 degrees near Lake Ontario. Though temperatures will be much below average, sunshine will occupy most of the day. Some clouds and a pop-up shower cannot be ruled out through the Niagara Frontier and through Monroe County. However, expect mainly dry weather with only a 20% chance of rain.
