CAIRO, May 8 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed a report on the outcomes of a comprehensive medical convoy organized by the Supreme Medical Committee and Reliefs at the Cabinet, in cooperation with the Egyptian Cure Bank Foundation, in El-Ghanayem and El-Qusiya districts of Assiut Governorate, from May 4 to 7, 2026.
The prime minister praised the positive role of the Supreme Medical Committee in organizing such convoys in effective cooperation with civil society organizations, in line with the state’s efforts to provide free medical services to citizens in villages and underserved areas, and to ensure access to quality healthcare close to their places of residence.
In the report, Naglaa Abdel Moneim, Head of the Supreme Medical Committee and Reliefs, said the convoy included several medical specialties, including orthopedics, internal medicine, cardiology, pediatrics, chest diseases, dermatology, ENT, and ophthalmology.
She added that the convoy provided free medical examinations and treatment, conducted laboratory tests, distributed eyeglasses, and referred cases requiring surgical intervention or specialized care to university hospitals and Ministry of Health facilities.
The initiative witnessed strong turnout from citizens throughout its duration, with wide appreciation for the State’s efforts to facilitate access to free healthcare services in the most underserved areas.
Abdel Moneim noted that the convoy examined 1,549 ophthalmology cases, provided 690 eyeglasses, and performed 162 free eye surgeries.
It also examined 2,355 cases across other specialties and referred 117 cases to Ministry of Health and university hospitals for further treatment and medical intervention.
She added that Assiut Governor Mohamed Elwan visited the convoy, praising the efforts of the Supreme Medical Committee and all participants, and commending the positive results that helped ease the burden on patients, particularly low-income families and those most in need.
She further noted strong coordination between executive and health authorities in Assiut and the two districts, which contributed to the convoy’s success in achieving its humanitarian and medical objectives.
Abdel Moneim also expressed appreciation to the Egyptian Cure Bank Foundation for its continued efforts in supporting and implementing the convoy, stressing that this cooperation represents a successful model of partnership between state institutions and civil society in supporting the healthcare system and delivering free medical services to the most vulnerable groups nationwide.
She affirmed the committee’s continued efforts to follow up on cases requiring surgical procedures or further treatment in university hospitals, Ministry of Health facilities, and hospitals affiliated with the Egyptian Cure Bank Foundation, in coordination with relevant authorities, in addition to organizing similar medical convoys in Assiut in the coming period.
