Tyler Bardak, Sam Empey, and Joey Stebbins will join the South Carolina men for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Bardak will transfer from Division II McKendree, Stebbins transfers from West Virginia, and Empey from Auburn.
Bardak just finished his freshman season at McKendree and was 3rd in the 400 IM at the 2026 Division II NCAA Championships. He swam to a season best 3:45.68, just off his best of a 3:45.47 he swam in December 2024 during high school. Bardak also was 10th in the 200 fly (1:45.33) and 11th in the 200 IM (1:45.85, lifetime best) at 2026 D2 NCAAs. Bardat is originally from Illinois.
Based on his best times, Bardak would have been the fastest on the roster in both IM events this past season for South Carolina. He would have made the SEC ‘B’ final in the 400 IM and the ‘C’ final of the 200 IM.
Stebbins arrives after finishing his freshman year at West Virginia. The Michigan native finished his season at the Big 12 Championships where he went three for three in lifetime bests. He was 10th in the 400 IM (3:50.39), 15th in the 200 back (1:43.94), and 18th in the 200 IM (1:46.62).
Based on his best times, Stebbins would made the ‘C’ final of the 400 IM, 200 IM, and 200 back at SECs.
Empey arrives with the Gamecocks and will stay within the SEC as he just finished his sophomore season at Auburn. He did not score at the 2026 SEC Championships as he was 28th in the 100 back (47.20), 31st in the 200 back (1:50.04), and 49th in the 100 fly (48.57). His best time in the 100 back sits at a 46.48 that he swam at midseason back in November this season. That would have made the SEC ‘C’ final.
The South Carolina men finished 11th out of 11 teams at the 2026 SEC Championships with 349 points. Missouri was 10th with 427 points. Pierre Largeron led the team with 52 individual points including a 6th place finish in the 500 free (4:11.88).
