SEC Baseball Power Rankings, Week 13: Tuning up for Hoover ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

With just 2 weekends of regular-season play left, the SEC is both rounding into postseason shape and still trying to answer many questions.

With 7 of the SEC’s teams hitting the weekend between 11-13 and 13-11 in conference play, the bracket for Hoover is very much still a mystery.

But here’s where the SEC’s hardball squads stack up and what their postseason situations look like.

Out of the Tournament

These teams don’t have much of a shot of playing this postseason:

16. Mizzou (21-26 overall, 4-20 in SEC)

A 31-7 combined score beatdown from Georgia pretty much cements the Tigers in the SEC’s basement.

15. South Carolina (22-27, 7-17)

Likewise, a convincing sweep from an LSU team that’s one of the other 3 SEC teams not really in postseason contention pretty much imprints next-to-last on the Gamecocks’ 2026 campaign.

14. LSU (29-21, 9-15)

Yes, a sweep of South Carolina was a blast of life. If LSU didn’t close with Georgia and Florida, there could be a shadow of a postseason hope. But between tough competition and a poor RPI situation, LSU is still out of things NCAA Tournament-wise.

Battling for an NCAA slot

These teams still have hope, but there’s work yet to be done:

13. Vanderbilt (28-22, 10-14)

Getting swept by Alabama didn’t do anything to help Vanderbilt. As things stand, the Commodores are out of the NCAA field… but they get to finish with Missouri and South Carolina. A 5-1 run (which is plausible) would land the Commodores at 15-15. But Vandy is sitting at 68th in RPI, while the teams immediately ahead of it in these rankings are over 30 spots higher. That’s a tough sell.

12. Kentucky (29-16, 11-13)

Kentucky badly needed a series win and it got 2 of 3 over Tennessee. Basically, the Wildcats need to avoid getting swept. Even a 2-4 run against Florida and Arkansas probably would place UK in the NCAA Tournament field.

In the Tournament (but not hosting)

These teams will likely be on the road for regionals:

11. Tennessee (32-17, 11-13)

The Vols didn’t do much, but did avoid a sweep against Kentucky. If they can pick up 2 more wins in the series matchups with Texas and Oklahoma, that should leave the Vols on solid ground.

10. Arkansas (32-17, 13-11)

Arkansas got a nice series win over Ole Miss that should cinch its NCAA spot. Oklahoma and Kentucky aren’t blockbusters coming up, but short of a 5-1 or 6-0 run, there’s probably not a really clear path to hosting for the Hogs.

9. Oklahoma (30-16, 12-12)

OU won its opener with Florida, but then got shredded 23-7 over the final 2 games. Arkansas and Tennessee still remain and a 4-2 mark would make things interesting in terms of potentially hosting.

8. Ole Miss (32-17, 12-12)

Losing a series to Arkansas leaves the Rebels potentially more likely miss out on hosting than to grab one of the last spots. A&M up next is a big challenge and Alabama on the road to end the regular season makes Oklahoma more likely to move up into hosting than Ole Miss.

Hosting, but work to do toward a super regional slot

These teams should be set to host in the regionals, but not quite at the top 8 slots that would herald a certain path to super regional hosting:

7. Florida (32-17, 13-11)

The Gators blasted Oklahoma in the last two games of their series and could salt away a hosting nod with Kentucky and LSU remaining on the schedule. The path for 17 or so SEC wins is clear, but that’s probably not quite enough for a top 8 slot.

6. Alabama (32-17, 13-11)

Alabama has a good record and a chance to finish hot with South Carolina and then Ole Miss at home to finish the league schedule. Given an impressive RPI (No. 5), Alabama is one team that could benefit if Georgia (which has a much lower RPI) stumbles in Hoover.

5. Mississippi State (38-12, 15-10)

Also a team with a high RPI (No. 8) and having won their first game with Auburn, the Bulldogs certainly also have a top 8 path open. Had they won another game over Texas last weekend, they’d probably already be in the top 8.

Potential Top 8 (Super Regional hosts)

These teams are the cream of the crop in the SEC and have the top 8 bid potentially in hand to control their fate all the way to Omaha.

4. Auburn (33-15, 14-11)

The Tigers dropped their first game with Mississippi State on Thursday and with Georgia lurking ahead, a couple of wins over the Bulldogs could lock up a top 8 slot — and a couple of losses could see the teams swap spots. But this still a team that just beat Texas A&M at home, so the Tigers deserve some faith.

3. Texas A&M (36-10, 15-8)

Texas A&M dropped a series to Auburn and is just No. 11 in RPI. They’ve got a big series at Ole Miss and then close with a dangerous Mississippi State team. The résumé is solid, but a late win or loss could shift things significantly.

2. Texas (36-10, 15-8)

The Longhorns bested Mississippi State and with Tennessee and Missouri remaining ahead, Texas is all but certain for a top 8 spot.

1. Georgia (38-11, 18-6)

Yes, the Bulldogs took a slight tumble and yes, their RPI isn’t great (No. 16). But off a weekend of blasting Missouri, Georgia next plays LSU and should be full of confidence ahead of its league finale at Auburn. Keep winning and UGA will nab a top 8 slot.
