Anthropic is considering a funding round in which it would raise as much as $50 billion and be valued at $900 billion, the Financial Times reported Thursday (May 7), citing unnamed sources.
The company is weighing the move as it fields inbound investment offers and as potential investors “are ready to throw any dollar amount at Anthropic,” one investor in the company said, per the report.
The new round is likely to close within two months, although it has not been finalized, and there is no guarantee that a deal will be reached, according to the report.
The reported valuation would put Anthropic ahead of OpenAI, which was valued at $852 billion in a March funding round.
Anthropic’s annualized revenue is expected to soon surpass $45 billion, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025, the report said, citing unnamed sources.
Anthropic did not immediately reply to PYMNTS’ request for comment.

Bloomberg News reported April 29 that Anthropic was mulling a new funding round that would value it at more than $900 billion and make it the most valuable AI startup in the world.
Anthropic was valued at $380 billion in a February Series G funding round in which it raised $30 billion. That figure was up from the $183 billion valuation it achieved in a September Series F round in which it raised $13 billion.
When announcing the Series G round in February, Anthropic attributed the investors’ interest in part to the company’s strength in enterprise AI and coding. The company said its run-rate revenue had grown to $14 billion at that time, driven by demand from enterprises and developers.
Anthropic and Google confirmed April 24 that Google is investing $40 billion in the AI startup. Google invested $10 billion that day at Anthropic’s current valuation and plans to invest another $30 billion in the future, contingent upon meeting performance milestones, Anthropic told PYMNTS.
It was reported April 29 that the White House was working on a way to allow federal agencies to use new AI models from Anthropic, sidestepping the supply chain risk designation it placed on the AI company.
Anthropic’s Mythos model has also been in the news, as the company has been allowing select partners to gain early access to the cybersecurity-focused model to identify vulnerabilities and strengthen systems before threats can be exploited.
