Quote of the Day: Tim McGraw on Why Kindness Is the Key to Greatness ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

And what had started out as a regular day in a tiny Start, Louisiana house quickly turned into a life-changing one: Tim discovered that his biological father was Major League Baseball pitcher Frank Edwin "Tug" McGraw Jr.—a man who'd refuse to acknowledge him as a son for another seven years. But while his absent father was chasing balls on the field, Tim's mom Betty was at home raising her son. She worked three jobs to support Tim and his two younger sisters, with a grace and grit that would shape her son's worldview forever.

Unfortunately, the rest did not come so quickly. His debut single bombed and his follow-ups barely cracked the charts. When his self-titled debut album dropped in April 1993, it didn't land anywhere on the chart. "I like to say it went wood, but you learn," he later told NPR. "I was surprised that I got a chance to do a second album. And when I did get a chance to do a second album, I went in and thought, 'All right, this may be my last shot, so I'm going to go in and I'm going to do this album the way I want to do it, the way I want it to sound, the songs that I want to sing.'"

He did exactly that—and the results were drastically different. Tim's sophomore album—Not a Moment Too Soon—debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country charts! Its second single, "Don't Take the Girl," became Tim's first chart-topper—a heartbreaking ballad that turned him from a struggling unknown into one of country music's biggest stars. The album would go on to sell more than 6 million copies, becoming the top country album of 1994. Two years later, Tim met his match: a fiery redhead named Faith Hill, who joined him as the opening act on his Spontaneous Combustion Tour. By the end of the tour, they were engaged—and they've been one of country music's greatest love stories ever since.

Quote of the Day by Tim McGraw

Parade/CanvaPro

In a world that constantly tells us success means climbing higher, having more and getting ahead, Tim's words are a quiet but powerful reset. He's reminding us that real success isn't measured by awards or fancy cars, it's defined by your character and the choices you make once you're successful. Because the truth is, kindness costs nothing and humility costs nothing—but the people who choose them every single day are the ones who change the world.

Tim's quote is from a song he recorded in 2016 called "Humble and Kind." The Grammy-winning anthem is one of the most beloved country songs of the 21st century. At its heart, the message is simple: No matter how high you climb in life, never forget to reach back down. Because success isn't about how much you accumulate—it's about difference you make while you're sitting at the top. It's the choice to remember where you came from and the awareness that every person you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. It's choosing—every single day—to be the kind of person your younger self would look up to.
