First Alert Weather: Brief shower and a little cool to kick off the Lilac Festival ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Our cool weather pattern will continue into the opening day of the Lilac Festival and race weekend at Watkins Glen. Temperatures will start off in the upper 30s to near 40 on Friday, and top out in the mid to upper 50s. We should see a fair amount of sunshine, especially to start. Diurnal cumulus clouds will develop with the heating from the sun, and a few brief passing showers will be possible once again, but the majority of Friday will be dry.

There is a lot going on this weekend! Watkins Glen has racing both weekend days, and it’ll be cool and comfortable both Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Saturday will feature the higher chance of some rain. A wave of low pressure will be sliding through northern PA and southern NY. There is the chance this may clip the southern Finger Lakes, including Watkins Glen raceway. We’ll keep an eye on how far north the rain lifts for Saturday. Sunday looks pretty good, with a better chance of staying dry. If you’re staying in Rochester and heading to the Lilac Festival, we’re looking pretty good both Saturday and Sunday with dry weather in the forecast, though a sweater is probably recommended.

If you have outdoor plans for mom on Mother’s Day, it isn’t looking too bad! We still have the slight chance of a shower in the morning, but we should see some clearing following the passage of a weak cold front. Temperatures will start in the 40s in the morning and end in near 60 degrees by the afternoon. If you’re getting mom some pretty flowers for Mother’s Day, you may want to hold off planting them yet. A return to cooler air to kick off next week may mean another round of patchy frost through Wednesday morning.

Beyond that, we’re looking at a warming trend! In fact, we may start to trend warmer than average toward the middle to end of next week. So if you’re waiting patiently (or not so patiently) on the warmer air, hang on just a little longer! It looks like it is in sight…
