ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester’s average gas price hit $4.52 per gallon on Tuesday, according to AAA’s latest report, a three-cent jump from the day before and a nearly 30-cent jump from last Tuesday.
Rochester’s average is 44 cents higher than a month ago. Gas prices have been rising locally and nationally since the war with Iran broke out, but Iran has confirmed that it’s reviewing a U.S. proposal aiming to end the war.
President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Iran if it doesn’t agree to a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The closure of the waterway, through which 20% of the world’s oil travels, has wreaked havoc on the global economy. Even if the war ends, it will likely take a long time for gas prices to come down, says Patrick De Haan, an analyst at GasBuddy.
The state and national averages are both higher and rising faster than Rochester’s average. The state average, currently $4.57 per gallon, is 28 cents higher than a week ago and 47 cents higher than a month ago. The national average, currently $4.55 per gallon, recently surpassed its highest mark in four years. It’s 25 cents higher than a week ago and 41 cents higher than a month ago.
The cheapest gas in the Rochester area on Tuesday is $4.05 per gallon at the SNK on North Clinton Avenue, according to GasBuddy. You can find the lowest price in your area through GasBuddy’s website.
